And a mantra you can use to make every day the best day it can be

This is a wonderful day. I’ve never seen this one before!

Maya Angelou’s final tweet, just days before she died. “This is a wonderful day, I’ve never seen this one before.” This is my new life mantra.

I am a night owl and an early riser. I do not get half the recommended amount of sleep but the one factor that would determine how well or how badly my day went, was my attitude when I woke up.

If I woke up and it was cloudy outside, I instantly decided that it was a gloomy day and that was my mood for the rest of the day. I lived for sunny mornings because it was a sign that I had a sunny day ahead of me.

This day, last week, was a particularly cloudy morning. The sun hid behind some mean-looking dark grey clouds and I could feel myself seething with gloom. No amount of coffee was helping me feel rejuvenated and nothing seemed to go my way.

For the umpteenth time since the national lockdown, I felt the walls of my otherwise cozy apartment close in on me. Anything that could go wrong, did. I missed my first online meeting of the day, I was unfashionably late to the second one.

The power was out for the better half of the day and I had to walk 4 miles to the closest grocery store to pick up supplies. By afternoon, I was livid. I kept reminding myself that the morning was gloomy and the day was only going to get worse.

And then, I read that quote.

It inspired me so deeply I had to find out in what book it had been written. A quick online search revealed it was Maya Angelou’s final tweet.

Maya Angelou was an American author, actress, screenwriter, dancer, poet, and civil rights activist best known for her 1969 memoir, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, which made literary history as the first nonfiction bestseller by an African American woman.

I realized I was taking beautiful days for granted. I was letting a bad attitude in the morning stink up the rest of my day.

If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude. — Maya Angelou

It has been a whole week and I am happy to share that I have changed my attitude. I celebrate every single day for the miracle it is. I endeavor to live each day as if it were my last. There is beauty in everything and I see things I never took notice of before.

Each day is a wonderful day that I am seeing for the first time, ever.

The best experiences in life come to us when we cultivate an attitude of gratitude. You will succeed best when you learn how to appreciate the good that is in your life, today. Your business will be profitable and your business relationships will thrive.

Celebrate each day for the wonderful day it is. Love yourself and others, fully.

I hope you reflect upon your own life after reading this article. And I hope that you remember to never take this life and every extra day you get here for granted. Most of all, I hope that every morning when you wake up you will say,

This is a wonderful day. I’ve never seen this one before!

And that you will mean it, and go on to live that day as the best day of your life, yet.
